Student Contract of Responsibilities for EOP Freshmen - Fall 2019

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is committed to our partnership with you to ensure that your educational experience will be a successful one. To achieve this goal, there are several commitments we will make together.  This document outlines the commitments and expectations of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) grant.  While this is not a binding contract, failure to uphold these expectations may lead to additional interventions, or loss of program benefits, such as the EOP grant.

Please read this contract, check “I accept” and submit online by May 1, 2019.  We look forward to working with you!

I agree to fulfill the following: 

1.  Meet with an EOP Counselor once a quarter.
  • Your EOP counselor will be a key resource to support you from orientation to graduation. Plan to meet with them to obtain answers to a wide array of questions regarding:
    • Assistance with course scheduling
    • Connection to campus resources
    • Degree progress check
    • Personal & professional development

2.  Apply for and, if selected, plan to attend the Summer Institute Program, which will be taking place July 28th through August 21st on Cal Poly's campus
  • Summer Institute (SI) is an empowering transitional program that has proven to support students in their adjustment to Cal Poly. More information will be sent to you soon via email. By participating in EOP, it is expected for you to apply for Summer Institute. If selected, the cost is covered by EOP and Financial Aid.
  • Complete your 2018-19 FAFSA* (based on 2016 taxes) as part of your Summer Institute application as soon as possible or no later than May 17, 2019.
    • This FAFSA is in addition to the 2019-20 FAFSA you completed for your freshman year in college, based on 2017 taxes.
    • *AB 540/Dream Act students: You do not need to file the FAFSA. Your submitted 2019-2020 CA Dream Act Application will determine your SI funding eligibility.

3.  Attend First Year Seminar during fall quarter.
  • You will be expected to participate in an interactive seminar series sponsored by EOP that includes key topics: time management, university policies, career planning, study skills, university transition and more. Before fall quarter, you will receive information on how you can fulfill this part of your contract.
  • *If you accepted an invitation to join the Cal Poly Scholars Program, you will be required to enroll in the Cal Poly Scholars Univ 100 course. However, if your class schedule permits, you are invited to join EOP's First Year Seminar course. 
4.   Educational Opportunity Program Living Learning Community.  
  • In addition to participating in SI, EOP has worked with University Housing to provide a community for EOP students (Living Learning Community).Benefits of living with EOP include: access to more campus resources, intentional programming, community building, and much more. All incoming EOP freshmen are required to live in the EOP Living Learning Community.  
  • *If you accepted  an invitation to join the Cal Poly Scholars program, you will be required to live in the Cal Poly Scholars Living Learning Community. However, there will be many opportunities for you to connect with the EOP community throughout the academic school year
5.  Participate in Ethnic Studies 112 and Communications 101 with all EOP freshmen during Fall Quarter. (Optional)
  • Ethnic Studies 112 and Communications 101 satisfies the D1 and A2 General Education requirement for nearly every major and will be taught by an esteemed Cal Poly professor.
