FDEP Stream Bioassessment Methods (Stream Condition Index, Habitat Assessment, Rapid Periphyton Survey, Linear Vegetation Survey)

FDEP Bioassessment Course Registration

This training will cover stream bioassessment methods including the Stream Condition Index (SCI), Stream and River Habitat Assessment (HA), Rapid Periphyton Survey (RPS), and Linear Vegetation Survey (LVS). This class is intended for beginners.

When:     Thursday, March 28, 2019 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST  
Where:    Starkey Environmental Education Center, in J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park
10500 Wilderness Park Rd. New Port Richey, FL 34655 (see map below) 

What to bring: Chest waders, rain gear, clipboard with appropriate forms and SOPs (see table below), dipnet and brush (if you have them), lunch and water.   

To prepare: Please read the Stream Condition Index Primer and relevant SOPs listed below prior to attending the course.

Course Schedule (times may be approximate)

 9:00 AM    Stream Condition Index (SCI) presentation (Starkey Env. Ed. Center)
10:00 AM   SCI Field Practice (Pithlachascotee River on Starkey property)
12:15 PM   Lunch (Bring your lunch or various restaurants are within a 10-minute drive.)  
 1:00 PM     Stream Habitat Assessment (HA), Rapid Periphyton Survey (RPS), and Linear Vegetation Survey (LVS) classroom presentations (Starkey Env. Ed. Center)
 2:30 PM    HA, RPS, LVS Field Practice (Pithlachascotee River) 

The course will end at approximately 4:30 PM.
 
Please note:  Hotel rooms have not been blocked for this training.  Please arrange your own accommodations.
