2019-2020 GUIDELINES

ELIGIBILITY
To apply you must meet ALL of the following criteria
  • Work for pay in a licensed Child Care Facility (Center or Family Child Care Home), or public school-based facility that is in contract with Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA) and;
  • Work at a site that does not have a California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract* and;
  • Work at least 15 hours a week directly teaching or caring for children ages birth through five and;
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application and;
  • Be planning to complete a minimum of 3 units of coursework towards a Child Development permit or ECE degree or related field, or at least 54 hours of ESL* (July 1, 2019– June 30, 2020).
  • *ESL courses require prior approval from your assigned Professional Development Specialist

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS
To receive a stipend award you must meet ALL of the following requirements between 7/1/2019 – 6/30/2020
                                                                      
Employment: Maintain employment at least 15 hours a week directly teaching or caring for children ages birth through five in a Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA) site that does not have a California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract or CDE EESD contract.

Advisement: Complete at least 2 advisement sessions with the Professional Development Specialist (PDS) assigned to your work site. Advisements sessions may happen in person, over the phone or virtual.

Coursework: Complete a minimum of 3 units of eligible coursework  or at least 54 hours of ESL* with a grade “C” or better from a CCTC approved regionally accredited community college or university. Accepted quarters/semesters: Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2020.
  • Eligible coursework Categories:
    • Degree: Child Development, Early Childhood Education (ECE), Human Development, Liberal Studies/Arts, Child & Family Studies, Early Special Education
    • General Education: If required to complete degree requirements (degree in CD/ECE or related field)
    • English as a Second Language or GED (54 hours)
    • Remedial Math or English: If required to complete degree requirements (degree in CD/ECE or related field)
Verification: Submit verification documentation by June 19, 2020. Forms will be emailed directly to you in March 2020.

STIPEND AWARD
$1,000 minimum
*The Stipend Award will be reported as non-employee compensation (Box 7 of 1099 form) and should be declared on the participant's federal tax return. Contact your accountant for any tax implications. 

BONUS AWARD
Maximum of ONE bonus per eligible participant. Bonus must be achieved between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020. Amounts to be determined depending upon the availability of funds. 
  • BONUS 1: New or Upgraded Child Development Permit
  • BONUS 2: Degree in Child Development/ECE field
  • BONUS 3: Additional Coursework, up to 3 additional units that meet guidelines
