Share your feedback on the proposed restructure of Central Adelaide Local Health Network

To capture the increasing number of issues being identified by  members regarding the proposed organisational restructure at Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), the ANMF (SA Branch) invites all Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing working at any level of nursing across CALHN to share your views in the below deidentified survey.
1. Are you a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse or an Assistant in Nursing working in any nursing role in the Central Adelaide Local Health Network?   *This question is required.
We’re sorry, this survey is open to CALHN nursing staff only.
2. It is proposed that the current divisions in CALHN will be replaced by ‘program areas’. Each program area will have a Manager of Clinical Program Delivery with authority over the Medical and Nursing Leads, rather than giving the Medical and Nursing Leads accountability for their own areas of function in partnership with the Program Delivery Manager. There is significant concern this will lead to a breakdown in professional reporting and reduce the capacity of senior nurses to make decisions that impact on professional practice and patient care.
Do you support the ANMF (SA Branch)’s position seeking changes to the proposed leadership of the program areas to ensure the Nurse Lead will have professional and operational authority within the area in partnership with their respective Program Delivery Manager? *This question is required.
2. Do you support the ANMF (SA Branch)’s position that having a strong, nursing leadership structure with sufficient control and power over relevant decisions is vital to ensuring appropriate professional practice and safe effective nursing care, resulting in high quality outcomes for patients/clients?  *This question is required.
2. Do you support the ANMF (SA Branch)’s position that Nursing Leads should have authority over nurse staffing, rostering, budgets, standards of practice and care and the patient environment? *This question is required.
2. There are concerns the current proposed program structure contains program areas that are too large and complex, with some bringing together areas that have little in common in terms of models of care and/or professional practice.
Do you support the ANMF (SA Branch)’s call for amendments to be made to the proposed program areas and make them smaller and/or with common clinical practice needs?
  *This question is required.
2. There are concerns the Leadership model has spans of control (eg numbers of staff, volumes of patients, locations of service delivery) too large for the Nurse Lead to be accountable and responsible for nursing standards and practice as well as providing sufficient and visible leadership to nurses throughout the organisation.
Do you support the ANMF (SA Branch)’s position calling for change in the spans of control?
  *This question is required.
2. There are concerns the job descriptions [click to view] for the leadership roles within the program areas are lacking in providing clarity in relation to their roles and functions.
Do you believe that enough detail has been provided regarding the proposed Nursing Lead position to adequately understand what is being proposed? *This question is required.
2. The ANMF (SA Branch) is gravely concerned that the proposed leadership structure restricts the career progression of nurses due to the severe reduction in available nursing leadership roles. We are also concerned the reduction in senior nurse leadership roles will reduce support and mentoring available to middle-level nursing roles and place additional responsibilities and pressure on those positions.
Do you share ANMF (SA Branch) concerns in relation to the reduction in leadership support?
  *This question is required.
