The Gerald K. Smith Award for Philanthropy 2019

The Dr. Gerald K. Smith Award for Philanthropy was established in 2013 to honor the work and philosophy of Dr. Smith who was a pioneer in the field and one of the original co-chairs of CMF's Michigan Forum for African Americans in Philanthropy (MFAAP) Affinity Group. He dedicated his entire career to making the Detroit community better for children and their families. The award recognizes significant efforts and contributions of individuals in the field whose work and grantmaking activities promote effective and responsive social change in communities of color.


Nomination Process and Guidelines
Nominations will be accepted for individuals in the field who have 4 or more years of experience and demonstrate leadership, impact, creativity/ advocacy and collaboration. The nominee can be an established leader in the field or an emerging practitioner.


Selection and Recognition
Nominations are due May 13, 2019. MFAAP Affinity Group chairs will review all nominations and select the award winner. This year’s recipient will be honored at CMF's Annual Conference on Monday, October 7 in Traverse City.
