About the MSA STORE OF THE MONTH PROGRAM
The Museum Store Association community is comprised of many different types and sizes of museum stores encompassing the broad diversity of our parent institutions. Great stores of all scale exist in a variety of settings and extend the institution’s experience to its visitors and beyond. MSA seeks to recognize the unique qualities and individual characteristics of museum stores with the “MSA STORE OF THE MONTH” designation, culminating with the “MSA STORE OF THE YEAR” recognition at our annual conference and expo, MSA FORWARD in the spring of each year.

Winning STORE OF THE MONTH is a valuable opportunity to communicate the value of our member stores and the importance of independently-operated retail within nonprofit cultural institutions. MSA's Executive Director will contact senior management of the winning institution to share the good news about STORE OF THE MONTH; where prompted on this form, please provide the name and contact information for your museum's leadership (i.e. Executive Director, CEO, President, COO) to be contacted if your store is selected for STORE OF THE MONTH.

All institution members in good standing can apply for MSA STORE OF THE MONTH. Nominations submitted via the form by the 15^th of the month will be considered for that month’s STORE OF THE MONTH; nominations received on the 16^th or later will be considered for the following month.

1. Please describe what makes your store unique and represents your institution’s mission and visitor demographics. Consider your store’s space and environment, product assortment, and visual merchandising.

2. How do you engage your staff to go above and beyond the visitor’s expectations in your store? Consider customer service standards, staff training and visitor feedback. *This question is required.

3. Describe which retail key performance indicators (for example Sales & Gross Margin, Year-Over-Year Sales, Sales Per Square Foot, Average Transaction, Customer Conversion Rates, Inventory Turnover Rate, Gross Margin, Return on Investment) you use and how you use them to grow your business. List any areas of significant growth or improvement over the last 12 months using percentages. *This question is required.

4. In a brief response (no more than 500 words), please provide a summary of why your store should be selected as Store of the Month. Include what your store is doing to advocate for your institution and its mission. Please write this answer in the third person as this summary will be posted on MSA’s website if your store is selected a Store of the Month. *This question is required.
