Thank you for wanting to save energy. The Home Energy Checkup is available to customers with electric heat for a co-pay of $99. There is no co-pay for income-qualified customers. During the checkup, our BPI Certified energy experts will spend 2-3 hours in your home. They will,
     • check your home’s insulation
     • look for air leaks
     • perform a blower door test and an infrared test
     • explain weatherproofing upgrades that will help you save on your energy bill.
The best news – I&M may pay 50% of the upgrade cost! Income qualified customers may have 100% paid, up to $3,000.

Eligibility Requirements
To take advantage of the Home Energy Checkup, you must have electric heat and live in a single family or duplex home. If you rent, we need your landlord to sign an authorization form. If you heat with natural gas, propane, wood, fuel oil or coal. Or if you live in a mobile home or apartment, you are not eligible for the Home Energy Checkup. You can still save with instant discounts on LED bulbsAppliance Recycling, and energy-saving products, rebates and discounts.

2. Have you received a Home Weatherproofing Check-Up from Indiana Michigan Power in the last 3 years? *This question is required.
We are sorry. You do not need to finish this questionnaire. Customers are eligible to receive only one Home Energy Check-Up every 3 years.
3. Best time to call.
An I&M Customer Service representative will call you within 2 days to schedule your Home Energy Checkup appointment. The I&M Call Center covers all 11 states served by AEP. The incoming phone number may be from an area code outside your local area.

4. Is your household income qualified?
Income-qualified households meet household income levels of 200% of poverty level or below. These income levels are based on the Federal Income Guidelines published by the US Department of Energy Weatherization Program.

8. Since you rent, I&M needs your landlord to sign a Property Owner Authorization Form. If you would like I&M to email the form to your landlord for the necessary signatures, please provide the following information. Let your landlord know they will get an email from 'Heather or Katherine via DocuSign' in the next few days. You can also download the form, have your landlord sign and send it back to I&M.

9. Do you receive a natural gas bill (NIPSCO, Vectren, Michigan Gas, etc)? *This question is required.
We are sorry. You do not need to finish this questionnaire. Homes heated with natural gas, propane, wood, fuel oil or coal are not eligible to participate in the weatherproofing program.

15. Is there standing water in the basement or crawlspace?
We are sorry. You do not need to finish this questionnaire. We are not able to perform a Home Energy Checkup on a home with water in the crawlspace or basement.

Please contact your local Community Action Agency for help correcting the water issue. Contact us for a Home Energy Checkup once the water issue is resolved.
16. Do you have pets in the home?
For the safety of your pets and the I&M energy experts, all pets must be in a carrier or kennel during the entire Home Energy Checkup. The energy experts need access to all rooms and spaces including closets. Your outside doors will be frequently opened and pets that are not contained could escape from the house.
