Teen Talk Training Application - Fall 2019

Santa Monica High School - Teen Talk Training - Fall 2019

Training Overview

Teen Talk Training will take place at Santa Monica High School this Fall!

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) and Teen Line developed a mobile phone app called Teen Talk. Teen Talk is an anonymous iPhone app where teens can get support from trained teens, share inspiration, and learn what other teens are dealing with. High school students can join the Teen Talk Training program to learn how to provide social and emotional support to their peers. The training will be provided by Teen Line.

The Teen Talk Training is a 50 hour training where participants will learn the essential tools to successfully support their peers. Fall Training will take place at Santa Monica High School and will begin on Monday, October 7th. Training will be held weekly every Monday and Thursday between 3:30-6:00 pm. Every week students will complete 5 hours of training. Please note, training on 11/21 will be held from 4:30-7:00 pm. Training will end the week the week prior to Winter Finals. There will be no training on Veterans Day, Halloween, or Thanksgiving. There will also be one mandatory Saturday training on November 23rd.

Once trained, teens will sign up for 2.5 hour weekly evening shifts where they can provide support at home on their own devices. Participants will receive community service hours for both the training and weekly shifts.

We are currently accepting applications from Santa Monica High School students (Grades 9-11 preferred) who would like to be trained to provide peer support to other teens on the app. All applications must be submitted by 1:00pm on Monday, September 30th. If invited to interview, please hold Saturday, October 5th from 9:00-1:00 pm on your calendar. Interviews will be held at Collins and Katz Family YMCA in Brentwood. All future meetings will take place at the Santa Monica HS campus.

Please complete the application below. Responses will be confidential. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to reviewing your application.
