AFO Scholarship Course Host Application

Introduction

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is looking for volunteers to host an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) scholarship course. The purpose of this scholarship course is to give professionals who work in communities with access to fewer opportunities the chance to get AFO certified for free.

The AFO certification course provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on operations, mechanical systems, water chemistry, disinfection, safety and more. In this two-day course, attendees will gain a better understanding of the entire pool system and learn how to run all types of aquatic facilities safely, efficiently and confidently.

Host Eligibility

To host a scholarship course, agencies must meet the minimum requirements below:
  • Park and recreation agency, municipal agency or nonprofit responsible for the maintenance and/or management of aquatic facilities
  • Agree to host the two-day AFO course and exam in May 2020
  • Provide a complimentary meeting space for 25 attendees and be able to meet course site requirements
  • Provide a letter of support from agency director or equivalent, including an agreement to provide meeting space for the AFO course and exam

Important Dates
  • February 5, 2020 ----- Application opens
  • February 19, 2020 ----- Application closes
  • February 26, 2020 ----- Applicants selected and notified
  • March 4, 2020 ----- Course date set by NRPA/Hosting agency and Host agreement due to NRPA
  • Early May 2020 ----- Spring AFO scholarship course
