2020 Emerging Leaders Committee Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the Coalition for Juvenile Justice's (CJJ) Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC). The ELC makes recommendations to the CJJ leadership and Executive Board, supports youth member recruitment, and promotes youth engagement across all organizational projects, programs and activities. Members also play a key role in shaping and broadening the scope/scale of CJJ's youth partnership work.

If selected, you will be expected to participate in monthly 1-hour long conference calls and actively participate in ELC projects. This will include timely responses to emails, phone calls, text messages, etc., with CJJ staff and fellow committee members. You will also have to follow through on any and all commitments that you make to the ELC's work.

  3. Optional: Recommendation letters (No more than three).

Applications are due by November 22, 2019 at 11:59PM EST (11:59PM CST, 11:59PM MST, 11:59PM PST). A limited number of applicants will be selected for an interview during the review process. If an applicant is selected for an interview, they will be contacted directly. Due to the volume of applicants, not all candidates will be contacted.  

Requirements:
The ideal applicant will have the following experiences, skills, and qualities:
  • have not yet reached the age of 24;
  • a member of their State Advisory Group;
  • previous or current juvenile justice involvement (i.e., aftercare, detention, incarceration, parole probation and/or residential placement.) and/or interested in juvenile justice reform;
  • writing and/or public speaking skills;
  • ability to work well others; and
  • eagerness to learn and listen. 
Applicants with lived expertise and/or members of their State Advisory Group are strongly encouraged to apply.
