Call for Abstracts
On behalf of the University of Hawai‘i System Global Health & Social Justice Work Group, the University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine, the East-West Center, Noguchi Medical Research, Inc., the Office of Public Health Studies, and Yoshihisa Asano, Ph.D., we invite your submission of abstracts for the 2020 Humanism, Empathy, Social Justice, and Global Health Symposium, to be held at the John A. Burns School of Medicine campus on Friday, February 14 2020.

Submission Guidelines for Abstracts
Our symposium has four broad themes: humanism, empathy, social justice and global health. We invite submissions of innovative research, practice, programs, and training on these themes pertaining to global health work based in Hawai‘i or the Pacific. Projects and analyses do not have to be complete to be considered for inclusion as we wish this symposium to support global health conversations of relevance to Hawai‘i and the Pacific. Student work, community-based projects, and work-in-progress are welcomed.
Selected abstracts may be either accepted for oral or poster presentation. You may submit more than one abstract.
Abstract Requirements
Submit a completed face page form containing the abstract title; complete name of all author(s); presenting author’s organization, mailing address, e-mail address; submission category; and conference theme.
Please indicate your preference: Poster Only, Presentation Only, or Presentation Preferred but Poster Ok
Abstract text (not including title or author names) should not exceed 300 words. The abstract may appear in conference materials exactly as submitted, including errors.
Body of Abstract
Organize the abstract as follows*:
- Objective: (Statement of the study or program purpose or aims)
- Methods: (Statement of the methods used including statistical analyses, if applicable or statement of the program activities and target audience)
- Results: (Summary of the results presented in sufficient detail to support the conclusion or evaluation and accomplishments)
- Conclusion: (Statement of the conclusions reached)
- Application: (Implications and significance of how subject matter applies to conference theme/s)
*Modifications are acceptable if the subject matter cannot be adequately addressed within this framework; however, the authors are responsible for ensuring that the organizational format chosen is understandable.
The timing of poster sessions will be confirmed when the program is finalized. Author(s) must be available for discussion of their work during the designated poster session or following the oral presentation. Further instructions for oral or poster presentations will be provided with notification of acceptance.
Notification
Abstracts selected for presentation will be notified by e-mail during the week of December 15, 2019.
The Yoshihisa Asano, Ph.D prize for best poster will be awarded at the symposium.
