Survey of "Small-Budget" Dance Makers 2019

About This Survey

The goal of this survey is to collect information about issues that matter to dance makers who self-identify as having budgets between $25,000 and $1 million in the metropolitan New York City area as well as demographic information. Your input will be used by Dance/NYC to create public awareness and guide policy, fund, and program development for this defined segment of dance makers.

Please note:

  • This survey is designed for completion by the artistic lead of an organization/project, although responses are welcome from any dance maker working within the $25,000 to $1 million budget range.

  • This survey is voluntary and individual responses will only be reviewed by Dance/NYC and Webb Management Services, the project researcher.
  • Dance/NYC recognizes that many "small-budget" dance makers work on multiple projects. This survey aims to collect information regarding as many organizations/projects as possible.  If you work on multiple projects, you are invited to take the survey multiple times, for each project you work on or the organization you work with.

  • Dance/NYC recognizes that language is constantly in flux and that words might have different meanings depending on their context and use. To ensure that survey respondents are not excluded by the answer choices, all questions offer an opportunity to write in an identifier. Aligning with its values of justice, equity, and inclusion (Dance.NYC/equity/values), Dance/NYC is engaged in a continuous process of refining language used in its surveys and prioritizes feedback from communities impacted by its work.

  • Workforce demographics survey questions (on race, disability, age, gender, and LGBTQ identity) are courtesy of SMU DataArts. Learn more at smu.edu/dataarts.

  • As there is no personally identifying information in the survey itself, all responses for the demographic data will remain anonymous.

  • The survey will take 15 minutes to complete.
  • The survey will close on January 15, 2020.
