Surgical Site Infections Quality Standard Advisory Committee Open Call

Health Quality Ontario, now the Quality business unit of Ontario Health, monitors the health system's performance and provides evidence-based advice, tools and programs for those on the frontlines to address gaps in care. One of the ways we do this is by producing quality standards, a go-to resource for clinicians, patients, and the public to help them understand what high-quality care looks like. Quality standards focus on aspects of care that have been deemed a priority for quality improvement in the province (e.g., where there are large variations in how care is delivered, or where there are gaps between the care provided in Ontario and the care patients should receive).

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in joining the Surgical Site Infections Quality Standard Advisory Committee. We are seeking people with lived experience, family members, informal caregivers, health care professionals, and administrators from across Ontario who can advise us as we develop a quality standard on surgical site infections (defined as an infection that occurs after surgery in the part of the body where the surgery took place).

This quality standard will focus on the prevention, assessment, and management of surgical site infections for people of all ages who have a surgical procedure involving a cut (incision) through the skin.  It focuses on care in any settings where surgical care is provided and surgical wounds are managed, including acute care, primary care, emergency department, hospital outpatient care, home and community care, rehabilitation, and long-term care.
