2020 California Credit Union Student Scholarship Application

The California Credit Union Scholarship Program is designed to acknowledge exceptional students throughout the greater Los Angeles county, by awarding 10 scholarships of $1,000 each to these students.

Submission of an essay and letter of recommendation will provide a testament to the character and abilities of the student applicant. Proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university in 2020 AND a W-9 tax form will be required before release of award funds.

Applicant Qualifications

Graduating high school senior enrolling into a two- or four-year college OR community college student transferring into a four-year university
Minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA)
Evidence of community and/or school involvement

How to Apply

Fill out the online application below. You will not have the opportunity to save the application and return later to complete it.
Submit the following two supporting documents online. These documents must be typed or legibly printed and may be uploaded as a PDF, Word, or image (.jpg or .png) file.
- A copy of your school transcript including your GPA and ACT or SAT scores (if applicable). Unofficial copies are acceptable.
- A letter of recommendation from someone other than a parent/guardian who has experience working with you either through a school activity, job, or community involvement.
Provide a short essay that answers ONE of the three topics found in the application below (not to exceed 700 words).
Application, supporting documents, and the short essay must be submitted together by Monday, March 16, 2020, 11:59pm, Pacific Time.

Award Announcement

Award recipients will be announced on our website on Monday, April 6, 2020: ccu.com/scholarship2020
Recipients will also receive an email notification.
Recipients must provide proof of college/university enrollment by August 16, 2020, and a signed W-9 tax form to receive the award.

15. Short Essay
Please answer ONE of the following three essay prompts. Your essay should not exceed 700 words, there is no minimum length. Be sure to address each portion within your chosen essay prompt.

Prompt 1:
Describe the impact that attending college will have on your future. What do you hope to achieve by going to college? How will your future benefit by obtaining a degree? How do you see your college aspirations and future career benefitting the community at large?

Prompt 2:
Write about a person who has been uniquely influential in your life. Explain how this person came into your life and speak to what insight or wisdom this person imparted to you. How has the influence of this person impacted your view toward attending college and being a part of your community?

Prompt 3:
Describe an obstacle or difficult life experience that you have overcome. How has this motivated you to pursue your future education? What might your life be like if you had not overcome this obstacle? What advice would you give others that are facing a similar hardship in their life?
