Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award 2019-2020

Guidelines for submitting a nomination:

The Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award recognizes a faculty member who has had a positive influence on students through academic advising. The award recipient will receive a $2,000 cash stipend and will be recognized by the President at Fall Conference, in addition to having his/her name posted on a perpetual plaque in the Kennedy Library. Questions can be directed to advising@calpoly.edu.

***All nominations are due by Monday, March 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.***

One faculty member is recognized annually and previous recipients will not be allowed to win again.  A faculty member is someone formally engaged in classroom and/or laboratory instruction.

Things to remember before nominating:
Nomination is to be based upon the faculty’s academic advising efforts related to areas such as:

  1. Major and support coursework selection
  2. Concentration and elective coursework selection
  3. Change of Major advising
  4. Senior project
  5. Mentorship
  6. Internship selection or supervision
  7. Career/graduate school planning and selection
  8. Referral to appropriate support services
  9. Guidance with academic challenges such as AP, time management, course load, etc.
*Things that won't be taken into consideration for this award:
  • Teaching styles and classroom experiences 
  • Club advising responsibilities
  • Research work
