Healthy Kids | Program Quality Self-Assessment

Introduction

Thank you for taking a part of your day to complete the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s (PdNHF) Program Quality Self-Assessment (Rev A). The purpose of the Healthy Kids Program Quality Self Assessment (HKPQSA) is to measure the quality of your out-of-school time (OST) program across seven quality indicators:

1) safety;
2) supportive relationships;
3) meaningful youth involvement;
4) skill building;
5) community involvement;
6) appropriate structure; and
7) positive social norms (Eccles & Gootman 2002).

When program administrators optimize all seven quality indicators, youth participants are more likely to experience positive long-term outcomes. This assessment provides you, the program’s decision-maker, an opportunity to discover your program’s strengths and weaknesses and, ultimately, to make improvements to your program.

The results from this assessment will inform you of the extent to which your program utilizes a positive youth development approach, which emphasizes a focus on positive, developmental outcomes for youth. Upon completion, you will receive an email with your organization’s results, which will identify your program's potential weaknesses and strengths related to each of the seven quality indicators. It is recommended that program administrators develop and implement quality improvement plans to address any weak quality indicators in order to increase the likelihood of achieving their program’s objectives.

Results of all self-assessments will be shared with the United Way of El Paso County and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation to inform capacity building and technical assistance opportunities and inform strategic planning.
