LEGOStories Brick by Brick
Students build a physical representation of their personal legacy brick by brick using LEGO’S® Education StoryStarter kits. Students will photograph their Legocy sculptures and write a creative writing piece describing their personal legacy. This program can be adapted to focus on the legacies of historical, contemporary, and cultural figures and events. This program can be tailored to meet specific grade level standards and school needs. Minimum 2 days needed for residency project. 60-90 minutes depending on site
STEAM- Brick Tank Robotics
In this STEAM residency, students invent, write and pitch proposal for their LEGO’S® robotic invention in the Brick Tanks. Students learn about physical science and simple machine principles in hands-on activities (using motors, sensors, pulleys, belts, levers, gears) with material provided by Brick Scholars. Using these skills, students are challenged to invent and program their LEGO’S® robotic product. Students develop a tagline, product description and product pitch into a well-organized presentation. Minimum 2 days needed to complete residency project and presentations.
Pixel Tile Mural
A mosaic tile mural will be developed and created using simple software and square tiles only. Artist will lead students through the design process, and the mural image will be assembled pixel style to produce a permanent mural project. Introduction to Creative Weaving
Direct hands-on experimentation and expression, with weaving on table looms. Each student will work with a variety of plant/animal/man made fibers to express themselves through woven art. History of weaving talked about during weaving process. 60 minutes
Discovering the Creative Process: Songwriting and Musical Storytelling - Students will be introduced to four distinct stages of the creative process, and explore this process through writing their own songs and exploring musical storytelling. Social Emotional Literacy Learning ( SEL) Through Puppetry Arts
Comprehensive puppetry arts program involving reading children’s literature, discussions, puppet shows, creating simple paper puppets, and activity/work packets that promote social skills. Students will be encouraged to write out their thoughts and feelings freely in their mixed media journals. Four Patch Story
Students write a story/ poem with a NC theme and tell that story in 4 squares that creates a art quilt. This craft will use hands on sewing skills, process of thinking and planning to complete the project. 3 days needed for residency (minimum).

For college or job bound students, this workshop is introductory preparation for the rigors of competing for coveted positions. Experience and discuss the science of sound-waves, frequencies, and resonance via the Australian Didgeridoo and home-made instruments. Seeing You, Seeing Me: Literacy Through Photography
Children will learn to read photographs and explore their identity through self-portraits. They will tell their own stories and create a booklet. Students will also photograph family, friends, and their environment to better understand others. Supplies average an additional $100 per class. 8 students max per workshop ideal (flexible) 60 minutes.
Students use oral history and storytelling to research their own family. Through colored pencil portraits squares, students will create special works of art about their culture and legacy. Group Quilt not included in workshop program. Duration: 60 minutes, 15-25 students max per workshop.
