Creating Connections 2020: Teaching Writing Remotely

Welcome!

The Creating Connections symposium is an annual event that brings together UCLA instructors (graduate students, faculty, and all others interested in undergraduate education) from around campus for a day of conversation around teaching generally, and writing pedagogy specifically. This year, the symposium will take the form of a workshop series organized by students in the Graduate Certificate in Writing Pedagogy in consultation with faculty and staff in UCLA Writing Programs and the Center for Advancement of Teaching.

These workshops are open to all members of the UCLA community. All workshops will be held synchronously via Zoom, and you will receive links and additional information upon registering. We will make recordings of synchronous sessions available for a limited time to those who have indicated interest via this form.

Workshop Protocol

Recording
A host/moderator will be recording each of the sessions in order to provide access to those who are unable to attend synchronously. The recording feature for others is disabled so that no one else will be able to record this session through Zoom. No recording by other means is permitted. The sessions will be posted for a limited time via Box, and will only be available to those who have registered. We encourage all participants to leave video on to fully engage, but if you have privacy concerns and do not wish to appear in the recording, do not turn on your video, mute yourself, and consider changing your display name to a pseudonym. If you would like to ask a question privately, you may do so by addressing your chat question to the moderator only (and not to “everyone”).  UCLA will not use the data for any other purpose beyond what is specified here. Recordings will be deleted when no longer needed. However, the recording may become part of an administrative disciplinary record if misconduct occurs during a videoconference.

Chat
We will use the chat feature for live questions from the community. Saving of chats is enabled.

Microphone In order to best manage the meeting, all attendees will be muted upon entry.  You can unmute at any time during the session, but we ask that you keep your microphone muted when you’re not speaking.
