On May 20th, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (the Department) and the Massachusetts School Administrators Association (MSAA) hosted a webinar with Dr. Nicole Christian-Brathwaite that focused on addressing the social and emotional well-being of children, youth and adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the number of registered participants, we opted not to host smaller group discussions on May 20th but instead have scheduled 3 smaller, one-hour follow-up sessions to debrief and network with participants.
The focus of discussions facilitated during these follow-up sessions will be on addressing the social and emotional well-being of children, families, educators and administrators using a trauma-informed lens as we plan the transition back to school in the fall. While these follow-up discussions will focus on topics related to transitioning back to school, it will not cover any specific physical health and safety guidelines or policies.
