FAQ USF Residence Hall Move Outs

Frequently Asked Questions

I left my belongings in my residence and am unable to return to retrieve them. How do I get my possessions?

Residents unable to return to campus to collect their belongings have an option to contract with Suddath Moving Solutions of St. Petersburg to coordinate the packing and moving of their possessions. Several options exist: Pack and store, pack and ship, or a mixture of both. Residents can select the option that best suits their needs.

What if I do not want ANY of my belongings stored or shipped?

Simply let Suddath know, and they will take care of making sure all items are properly disposed of or recycled. Please note there is a charge for this service. Residents will be billed directly by Suddath.

How will Suddath be able to tell what items are mine and which belong to my roommate(s)?

As part of their service, the Suddath Move Team will schedule an appointment with each student where they will conduct a video conference while in your residence. This conference will allow you to verify your items and ensure that only your belongings are packed by the Suddath team.

What safeguards are in place to ensure the safety of my items?

Suddath has selected highly skilled and trained individuals that have undergone a level 2 background check, which means they have passed a state and national fingerprint-based check that considers disqualifying offenses for employees in positions of trust.Employees will be identified by a Suddath-issued uniform, and Suddath supervisors will also be on site every day to ensure that all employees are following proper protocols and procedures.

What if I have trash or items I do not wish to have packed, shipped or stored?

During your scheduled appointment, you will have an opportunity to identify these items. Once all items have been identified, the Suddath Move Team will take care of their disposal. Additional charges for disposal will be applicable.

What if I have items to donate?

Due to the current health concerns associated with COVID 19, donations are not permitted. All items must be shipped, stored, or disposed of.

What items cannot be packed or shipped?

Hazardous materials such as aerosols, flammables or perishable items will not be able to be transported by Suddath. In the event that you have any of these items, Suddath will safely dispose of them.

How will my items be packed?

All items will be packed into cardboard boxes. Packing materials such as bubble wrap and packing paper will also be utilized to ensure that your items remain protected during transit and storage.

Where will my items be stored?

Suddath maintains a professionally managed warehouse in St. Petersburg. Suddath’s warehouse is a secured, gated and climate-controlled facility with around the clock monitoring. Public access is by appointment only.

How does Suddath keep track of my items?

You and your belongings will be assigned a unique order number. This order number will be utilized for tracking purposes and be placed on a label, along with your name, on every box that is packed. This same order number is used when your belongings are inventoried prior to being “checked-in” at Suddath warehouse. Upon retrieval or delivery, Suddath will utilize your order number to ensure that all belongings are accounted for and being returned to the correct individual.

What if I cannot retrieve the items myself? Can a parent, family member or friend retrieve them for me?

Yes, residents can work with a Suddath customer care representative to have approved individuals gain access to their belongings.

What if I want to store some of my items and ship some of my items?

Notify the Suddath representative during your scheduled call that you have items that need to be sent to you, and they will walk you through the necessary steps in order to complete this request. Additional charges apply.

I lived with another resident(s) this semester who have not yet moved out of our space. Do I need to get permission from them in order to allow Suddath to enter our room?
