Bow Hunter Sighting Log

Bow Hunter Sighting Log

The New York Bowhunter Sighting Log is designed to provide information on long-term population trends for selected wildlife species. The log was started on an experimental basis in several areas of the state in 1995. It was expanded to cover the entire state in the fall 1998. Because bowhunters spend so much time sitting still in the same place, they are ideal wildlife observers. Bowhunters who are cooperators in the sighting log keep a diary of their bowhunting activities. They also record the number of animals of several species that they see from their stand. The data is used by DEC to monitor wildlife population trends, both regionally and statewide.
