Track 1: Interested in psychiatric research, BUT in the early stage of developing area (s) of research interest and need mentorship in doing so.
Track 2: Interested in psychiatric research and identified a clear research area of interest, but need mentorship in moving forward to develop a K-award project or fine-tuning your research portfolio.

  • Participation expenses include travel, accommodation, and APA membership fee (if you are not currently a member)
  • Note: You are not required to register for the Annual Meeting in order to attend the Colloquium and the associated Early Research Career Breakfast. However, if you plan to attend any of the APA Annual Meeting events (other than the Colloquium and the Early Research Breakfast, you are required to register for the APA Annual Meeting. In this instance, the APA Annual Meeting registration fee MUST be covered by you or your sponsor.

Instructions for Uploading Files:

3) Provide every document in a PDF format excluding the ABSTRACT. Please provide the abstract in a Microsoft Word document.
12. Provide a 500-word abstract (Microsoft Word document only) describing your research. The abstract can describe a brand new proposal, a study that is in progress, or a completed study. This is the project you will present at the Research Colloquium. The abstract must include the following: Title of Research Study; Author(s); University/Hospital setting where research was conducted; Objective/Hypothesis; Method/Proposed Method; and Discussion/Significance. *This question is required.
13. Provide a two-page statement (PDF only) describing your current, proposed, and/or completed research projects. Include the study aims, hypothesis, methods and expected outcome for the project. In addition to other projects you may mention, please make sure to discuss the project you plan to present at the Research Colloquium. *This question is required.
14. Provide a 250-word personal statement (PDF only)  that includes a brief description about your career plan and describes how your attendance at the Colloquium would further your research career goals. Additionally, it should also describe the type of mentoring that will be beneficial to you. It may also include limitations to completing the project that are anticipated. *This question is required.
15. Provide Nominee's CV (PDF only) *This question is required.
16. Provide a Sponsor's Letter of Recommendation (PDF only) from the nominee's research mentor, other faculty member at the nominee's institution, or psychiatric association describing the nominee's potential as a researcher and his/her potential to benefit from the Colloquium. The letter of recommendation must be submitted on the sponsor's institution letterhead and signed. *This question is required.

If accepted as a participant in the Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators, I understand that I will be required to:

1)  Attend all Colloquium events (i.e., at least 1 of 4 Webinars that will be held between February 1, 2021 and April 1, 2021; the two-day immersive Colloquium; and the APA Early Research Career Breakfast [held the Tuesday, April 28, 2020 following the Colloquium]);

2) Sign-up for APA membership if i am not already a member; you must provide proof of membership upon acceptance.

3) Grant the American Psychiatric Association (APA), it's representatives and employees the right to take photographs of me during the Research Colloquium and Early Research Career Breakfast. I agree that APA may use such photographs of me (including photographs I may provide to APA) with or without my name and for any lawful purpose, including colloquium-related webinars, publicity, illustration, advertising, and web content.

4) Track 1 Participants: Give a 15-20 minute oral presentation on  a new or ongoing research project and/or a research protocol in it’s early development phase within a small group session and present the research idea in a poster format during the poster session to receive guidance from assigned team mentors.

Track 2 Participants: Give a 15-20-minute oral presentation on an ongoing research project and/or a research protocol in a small group session and present a poster on the same research study during the poster session.
