ASPHO’s Nominating Committee will once again utilize a competency-based framework for reviewing nominees for positions for the Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee.
The competencies being sought for the Board of Trustees are:
- Organization Awareness and Knowledge: Aware of strategic goals, structure and culture; previous volunteer leadership involvement in ASPHO;
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability and desire to listen and engage thoughtfully with others. Capacity to deliver concise and clear messages; and
- Accountability: Meets personal commitments and promises; sets high performance standards.
Nominating Committee nominees should exhibit the following competencies:
- Organization Awareness and Knowledge: Aware of strategic goals, structure and culture; previous volunteer leadership involvement in ASPHO;
- Team and Relationship Building: Appropriate focus on compromise and consensus when working with others. Understand group dynamics and role of persuasion and humor;
- Effective Leadership: Displays leadership characteristics such as balancing firmness and flexibility, leading with creativity and vision, and ability to compromise. Stimulates action in others through clear and compelling strategic thinking; and
- Objectives, Structure, Process: Understands ASPHO’s long- and short-term objectives. Able to work well in a structure that requires coordination among volunteer and staff leadership.
