Briefing and Consent Page (Appendix 1.0)

We would like to invite you to participate in this research project conducted by researchers at University College London (UCL). You should only participate if you want to; choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way. Before you decide whether you want to take part, please read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask us if there is anything that is not clear or you would like more information.

Details of Study

We are looking to understand possible reasons why people (of all ages) are choosing to use complementary medicine, which has gained increasing popularity in recent years.

During this study you will be asked to complete a survey about your beliefs regarding your health, and where you go to find information about health related issues.

In the questionnaire you will also be asked about your beliefs and personal attitudes and you will be asked to complete a task that involves searching for images in a snowy background.

You will be asked for some background details about you. These details will never be used to identify you, and you will not have to provide your name or any personally identifying information. The survey will last approximately 20 minutes.

It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you choose not to participate, you won't incur any penalties or lose any benefits to which you might have been entitled. However, if you do decide to take part, you will be given this information sheet to keep and asked to sign a consent form. Even after agreeing to take part, you can still withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. All information is confidential, and you will not be able to be identified from the information you give.

Should you wish to receive a copy of the final research project, do not hesitate to contact the researcher.

All data will be collected and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the researcher:
