Why Surveys Are Important for Companies

Surveys are crucial to the improvement and success of companies and organizations regardless of size. Large enterprises, as well as small and medium businesses, know nothing is more important to their future success than hearing from customers, prospects, and employees. Feedback can drive improvements in customer relations and product strategy. This data collection method allows businesses to:

Obtain Helpful Customer Feedback – You can create a customer survey to find out if people are satisfied with your products or services. The comments they provide can point out problems that were not apparent otherwise. It gives you the chance to do two things: Fix the issue quickly and assure customers that their concerns and suggestions are valuable.

Gather Data for Marketing Purposes – You can create surveys to obtain invaluable demographic data from your customers. Your sales staff, for instance, can use the collected data to improve how they promote your product or service and attract more customers.

Engage Customers – Surveys are not all business. Brands, such as BuzzFeed, invest heavily in creating highly entertaining and fun surveys to keep visitors engaged. Running enjoyable surveys keeps your customers interested in your brand..

Improve Communication within the Company – An employee survey is an excellent way to open the communication lines between management and employees. Employees can give both positive and negative feedback. You can use the information you receive to refine processes in the organization and address problems or to celebrate accomplishments and progress against corporate goals

Show Care toward Your Staff – Administering an employee survey is a proactive way of getting in touch with your employees and listening to their concerns. This approach is better than merely reacting to staff complaints periodically.

The Role of Surveys in Non-Profit Organizations

The advantages of surveys are not just limited to for-profit organizations. Nonprofits may also benefit from using this data collection tool.

With surveys, you can:

Collect insights about your donors and volunteer staff
Gain a better understanding of what’s going on behind the scenes of your organization
Figure out what makes your funders happy
Gauge interest in fundraisers and other similar events

A Look at the Different Survey Templates

If you’re planning to launch a survey, you will need to determine the appropriate survey template to help you achieve your goals. A few of the options for you are:

Net Promoter Score (NPS) Survey

This template lets you determine the likelihood of your customers recommending your service or product to other people, such as colleagues, family members, and friends. Respondents taking the survey will answer a question with a rating scale ranging from 0 (Highly Unlikely) to 10 (Highly Likely).

Based on the answers you receive, your respondents can fall under these three categories: Detractors (people who give a rating of 0 to 6), Passives (those who provide a 7 or 8 rating), and Promoters (individuals who provide a score of either 9 or 10). Calculating your net promoter score is as easy as deducting the percentage of promoters from the percentage of detractors. Learn more about SurveyGizmo’s Activated NPS solution here.

A few of the questions you can include in this survey are:

2. Do you plan to work with the same company for the next few years?
3. Does your boss provide you with the resources and tools necessary to get your work done effectively?
4. Do you regularly receive constructive feedback from your supervisor?
5. Does your manager treat every member of the team equally?

Customer Satisfaction Survey

1. What do we need to do to improve your experience with [state the name of your business or organization here]?
2. What would convince you to use [state the name of your product or service] more often?
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the service you received from one of our agents?

Tips for Doing an Effective Survey

Follow these great suggestions when creating and distributing any survey:

Keep your questions short and straight to the point. Your respondents are less likely to complete a survey when it’s long or shifts from one topic to another.

Avoid writing leading questions. Some phrases or words may push respondents towards the direction of a particular answer. This bias can undermine the quality of the survey results. When doing checks for questions, keep an eye out for adverbs and adjectives that can make a statement appear biased. Take them out if they’re unnecessary.

Pose one question at a time. Questions with conjunctions, such as “and” and “or,” indicate that the statements contain two parts. You can avoid a double-barreled question by being on the lookout for these conjunctions and rephrasing the statement when necessary.

Pre-test your survey before launching it. Having a few people go through your survey first will help you uncover any phrasing errors and reveal unclear or vague statements that require revision.
